The environmental noise impact from major transportation, power generation and industrial projects has become an increasingly important societal issue. BKL Consultants Ltd. has extensive experience in preparing Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA’s) for all levels of government, e.g. provincial (BCEAA), federal (CEAA) and international (World Bank), as demonstrated by the following projects:

Deltaport Container Terminal - 3rd Berth Project - Delta, BC - BKL Consultants had participated in the environmental assessment of the original container terminal and was retained to participate in the BCEAA/CEAA Review for the proposed 3rd Berth. Additional noise monitoring was undertaken and noise impacts from construction and operation of the proposed 3rd Berth were predicted. BKL participated in public consultation and preparation of the EIA report for submission to regulatory agencies.

Greater Vancouver LRT Systems - BC - Environmental noise and vibration impact assessments for the SkyTrain Evergreen Line (2008), Evergreen LRT Line (2006), Canada Line (2003), Port Moody Coquitlam Line (2000) and SkyTrain Millennium Line (1996). Assessment of community noise and vibration impacts from the construction and operation of these light rapid transit systems proposed for or operating in Greater Vancouver.

Agua Rica Mine - Argentina - Prepared the noise component of an EIA on a new Northern Orion open pit copper/gold/molybdenum mine in northwest Argentina. Included extensive noise modelling in Cadna/A of mine site operations, blasting in two years, process plant site, waste rock and tailings facility, filter plant, port facility, airstrip, 2 options for the mine site access route and two options for the process plant access route. Meteorological effects were taken into account and noise contours were produced for each area/scenario. Wildlife impacts were the greatest concern, although mine site access route options were evaluated to minimize community impacts on the nearby town of Andalgala.

Whatcom Road Connector - Abbotsford, BC - Prepared CEAA noise component technical report addressing potential construction and operations noise impacts from the proposed four-lane major arterial roadway. Included baseline monitoring and Cadna/A modelling.

Pueblo Viejo Diesel Power Plant - Dominican Republic - Prepared the noise component of an EIA for a Barrick power plant expansion. Noise modelling was performed using Cadna/A to predict community noise impacts from construction and operation of the upgraded facility.

Murphy Creek & Keenleyside Hydro-Electric Projects - BC - Prediction of noise impact on residential communities due to drilling, blasting and earth moving required for major BC Hydro developments on the Columbia River.

Helicopter Noise Impact - Whistler, BC - BKL Consultants predicted and assessed potential noise impacts from the proposed addition of two new heli-pads in Whistler valley. This assessment included measurement of helicopter noise at multiple locations during simulated landings and departures.

CFB Cold Lake, Air Weapons Ranges - Cold Lake, Alberta - Noise prediction and impact assessment associated with low level military flying and sonic booms throughout a large military training area for Department of National Defence (DND).
