25 Mar Gary Mak, P.Eng.
BKL proudly recognizes Gary Mak, who received his professional engineering licence from APEGBC on February 16, 2016. Congratulations!
When he received the news, Mak was at the office. “I was excited and relieved at the same time.”
“The toughest part of the licensing process was making time to complete the competence assessment,” says Mak. “I had to evaluate my work experience and show my competence in the field of acoustical engineering. But as I worked through the assessment, I realized how much progress I had made over the past four and a half years. The decisions I’m making at work now are much more significant and complex than those I was making when I first started with BKL after graduation. I look forward to continuing to advance my knowledge in acoustics and engineering better solutions for acoustical issues.”
After graduating from UBC in 2011, Mak joined BKL and began working toward his license. During the past five years Mak has obtained relevant acoustical engineering experience by working on a wide range of projects including
- noise control design for the mechanical systems at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, ON, and the CIBC Pan Am / Parapan Am Athletics Stadium at York University for the 2015 Pan Am Games;
- theatre acoustics condition assessments of the performance venues at Arts Commons in Calgary, AB;
- noise impact assessments for tenant expansion projects at Port Metro Vancouver; and
- highway noise mitigation assessments on the Port Mann / Highway 1 Project.
For Mak, receiving his P.Eng is an affirmation of his expertise, professionalism and career choice.
