In Remembrance of Murray Hodgson and Chris Wolfe

This past week, we were saddened to learn of the passing of Murray Hodgson and Chris Wolfe. Both Murray and Chris made lasting contributions to the acoustics community on the West Coast and will be missed by everyone who knew them and worked with them.

Murray Hodgson, former Professor of Acoustics, Director of the Acoustics & Noise Research Group, and Director of the NSERC CREATE Sustainable Building Science Program at UBC, passed away last weekend after fighting cancer throughout the past year. As a Professor at UBC for more than twenty years, Murray introduced acoustics to engineering undergrads and supervised many students through their graduate studies. At BKL, through the years, we have hired many of Murray’s former students. These students arrived at our door with a strong foundation in acoustics—no doubt a result of Murray’s skill as a teacher and passion for acoustics.

Chris Wolfe founded Vibra-Sonic Control, a Vancouver-based noise and vibration control materials and products supplier, in 1980, and remained President and Owner until his passing Wednesday after an 18-month battle with cancer. We knew Chris as a highly capable professional engineer, and we found it easy to refer people to him for vibration isolation products over the past four decades. We appreciated his knowledge, experience and sincere interest in helping people solve their noise and vibration exposure problems.

The Vancouver acoustics community will sorely miss Chris and Murray.
